Fifty-three carats of tanzanite, domed and left unfaceted, holding its violet-blue the way only a sugarloaf cut allows.
The sugarloaf is an old lapidary's decision — a smooth cabochon brought to a soft point, chosen when a stone's color is the whole of its argument. Here the tanzanite is set in warm 18K yellow gold rather than cooled by white metal, so the color reads as the stone intended.
A border of sixty-nine round diamonds — 1.08 carats in total, G–H, VS1–SI1 — traces the mount, and the gold carries 16.87 grams in the hand.
